You buy it, you own it. We just connect it.
Your domain is your website address, like yourbusiness.co.uk. You buy it in your own account with a domain company (sometimes called a registrar), so it belongs to you, not to us. We recommend GoDaddy, but any well-known domain company is fine.
Once it's bought, you give us access to it. With GoDaddy that's one tap to approve our request. We never need your password or payment details.

Check the name before you buy.
Before you pay, double-check the spelling letter by letter. A domain can't be renamed once it's bought.

Already own one?
Already own a domain? Don't buy another.
If you already have a website address, we'll use that one. What happens next depends on where it is.
- It's in your own account. Whether that's GoDaddy or another company, skip to Step 3 and send us the account name, email and company.
- A previous web designer or someone else bought it. It may be in their account, not yours. Ask them to move it into an account in your name. We'll help you word the request.
- You're not sure where it is. Send us the address and we'll look it up for you.
Buy it
Step 1: Buy the domain.
You can buy a domain from any well-known domain company. We recommend GoDaddy because it's the one we use, so we can connect your website quickly. The steps below are for GoDaddy. Other companies work in much the same way: search for the name, add it to your basket, create an account in your own name and pay.
- Go to GoDaddy UK domains .
- Type the domain you want into the search box and search.
- Check the spelling and the ending (for example .co.uk) match exactly, then add it to your basket.
- Sign in, or create an account. Use your own name and an email address you check regularly.
- Pay and finish the order.
Secure it
Step 2: Turn on two-step verification.
In your domain account settings, turn on two-step verification (a code sent to your phone or an authenticator app when you sign in). It stops anyone who guesses your password from taking your domain.
Keep your account email and payment card up to date, so renewal reminders reach you.
Send details
Step 3: Send us your account details.
Message us the name and email address on your domain account, and which company it's with (for example GoDaddy). That's all we need.
Please don't send your password, card details or any security codes.
Approve access
Step 4: Give us access.
If your domain is with GoDaddy: we'll send an access request from our own GoDaddy account. GoDaddy then emails you.
- Open the email from GoDaddy about an access request.
- Check the request is from us. We'll message you privately with the name and email address you should see on it.
- If it matches, select Confirm Access and sign in if asked.
If your domain is with another company: tell us which one and we'll send you the steps for theirs. Many let you add us as a user on your account. If yours doesn't, we'll talk you through changing the one setting we need, so you still never share your password.
The access level should be Products & Domains. It lets us point your domain at your new website. It doesn't let us buy anything, see your payment details or change your password.
What happens next
We connect your website. You stay in control.
We'll update your domain's settings so your address opens your new website. You don't need to do anything else.
You stay the owner. You can see what we have access to, and remove it at any time, in your domain account's settings (on GoDaddy, the Delegate Access page). If you ever move to another web designer, your domain goes with you.

Why don't you just buy it for me?
We could, but it would then be registered to us, not you. If you ever wanted to move on, you'd be relying on us to hand it over. Buying it yourself means it's yours from day one, even if you change web designer later.
Do you need my password?
No, never. You approve our access request with one tap, and you never share your login, payment details or any security codes. If anyone asks for your domain account password, say no.
How much does a domain cost?
A normal .co.uk that nobody owns yet is usually around £10 to £15 a year. Two things can change that. First, deals: a domain might be £1 for the first year, then £15 a year after that, so always check the renewal price. Second, names someone already owns: a short, popular name like plumber.co.uk is often being resold and could cost hundreds or thousands. Your own business name, like smithplumbing.co.uk, is normally the standard price. Ignore the extras offered at checkout: you only need the domain.
Will I need to pay the domain company for anything else?
No. Just the yearly renewal of the domain. You don't need their email, hosting, website builder or security certificates for your Sprint Start website.
What if the name I want is already taken?
Try a simple variation, like adding your trade or town. Don't pay hundreds for a name someone is reselling. We're happy to help you find a good alternative.
Should I buy the .com as well?
You don't have to. For a UK business, a .co.uk on its own is fine. Some people buy the .com too so nobody else can use it. If you buy both, you still have one website: we make one your main address and send the other one to it. So anyone who types smithplumbing.com lands on smithplumbing.co.uk automatically. Just give us access to both.
What happens if I forget to renew it?
Your website and any email using the domain stop working, and after a while someone else could buy the name. Leave auto-renew switched on and keep your payment card up to date in your domain account.
Can I use my domain for email too?
Yes. An address like info@yourbusiness.co.uk looks more professional than a Gmail or Hotmail address. Ask us and we'll explain the options.
Can I remove your access later?
Yes, at any time, from your domain account's settings (on GoDaddy, the Delegate Access page). Just let us know first if we're still looking after your website, as we'll need access to keep it connected.
